biography

















Rocío Huertas born in Sevilla in 1973.

Master of Arts in Digital Arts by the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. Scholared by Iniciarte, Culture department of the Andalussian Goverment. Master of Arts in Scenography by the Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, London 1998. Graduated in Scenography by the Institute of Theater, CAT of Seville, Spain and passed through the Utrecht School of Arts of Holland scholared by the Culture department of the Spanish Goverment and Erasmus / Sócrates. Among her teachers there were J.Svoboda, J. Dusék, Pamela Howard y Ralf Koltai.

In 1996 was scholar by the Spanish Ministery of Culture to develop her studies of Scenography in the Academy of the performing Arts DAMU, Faculty of Theater in Prague. In this period studies Animation film in FAMU, the Faculty of film of the Academy of the performing Arts of Prague. It is here where begins to develop the project for the short animation film “Death and Resurrection” soported for its production by the department of Culture of the Andalucían goverment. It has had presence in numerous wellknow festival along Europe and Marroco such as Alcalá de Henares & Alcine in Madrid, Animac in Barcelona, Granada, Medina del Campo (Spain); Assolo and Rome (Italy) Fastasmoporto (Portugal); Vendome (France); Tánger (Marroco), Stuttgart (Germany); A with prizes in: Festival de la Comedia de Peñíscola 2002 SPAIN (Special mention of the jury for the best short film) y en ALCANCES Festival de Cine del Atlántico de Cádiz 2002 SPAIN (Prize to the best short film) And Certamen de cortos de la diputación provincial de Málaga 2002 SPAIN (Prize to the best short animated film).

She granted a scholarship by the Ministry of Culture, to attend the program of the Center of Digital Applications of the New York University. Where she developed her experimental animation work “The uprooted”. Supported by Madrid Goverment. Won the Prize to the Best film project in 2003 and Best Short Animation film in 2004 in Muestra Cortos Diputación de Málaga and the Best Andalussian Creation in San Roque Film Festival Cádiz. Special mention of the Jury at the Gerona Film Festival. Exhibited in the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid, Andalussian Center of Contemporary Art of Seville, Art Gallery Meteora Space, Cine Avenida of Seville, Alcances 2004 (Festival Cine del Atlántico, Cádiz), Obuxo 2004 (Huesca), Baumann 2004, L’ Alternativa 2004

The music clip "Blanco sobre blanco" that she made for the band MAGA, won the prize to the Best video-clip of the year in Madrid TV in 2005. She attended the Experimental film program at the UDK Universität der Küster in Berlin 2004/06 with the exceptional art filmmaker Karl Kels. In 2007 she finished the experimental film Dadda Zeydam Brahim Shot in Argelia in 16mm & video. All the process from script, photo, film and video camera work, sound, animation and edition were made by the author. Exhibited in Festival cine experimental de Tunja, Colombia 2007, Festival L’Alternativa- CCCB, Barcelona 2007.The International Film Festival of Uruguay, 2008. Festival Ambulart 08 in Ecuador, México and Germany. 13º Festival internacional de Arte y culturas digitales de Gran Canaria.2008.
She has worked on Film-Poetry. The first film was ‘Discovery and fall of Europa’ It is an animation film made with the tecnic of ‘pixilation’ that was exhibited in a Film festival en 2007 in Venezuela. The second is ‘Normal Poetry’. Her poetry mixed with cut- animation, 16mm film and super 8, talking about solitude and memory. Granted by the Andalussian Center of Contemporary Art and selected in the the Festival ‘Moves 08’ (Movement on Screen) in Manchester 2008. 54th International Short Film festival Oberhausen, Germany. 6º Mostra de arte visual y sonoro de Barcelona & 4th ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival.2008. Berlín.13º Festival internacional de Arte y culturas digitales de Gran Canaria.2008. VII Certamen de Arte de mujeres. 2008. Sevilla.
In her trajectory as designer has touched diverses fields on the performing arts. In the International School of Movies and T.V. of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, improved her knowlege on Art Direction. Inside this field works in several short films and theatre Shows such as “Peregrinos” and “El Carnival of the Animals”. She has also directed and designed three performances “The Bloody Tragedy of The World” in 1998 at the Cochrane Theatre, London. “Memory Houses” in 1997 at the Hogerschool in Utrecht and “Paisajes” in 1995 in San Luis Teather CAT Sevilla. It fits to emphasize her interventions multimedia in Dance Show “Baile of Iron, Dance of Bronze” of Javier Baron in which mixed her animations with Flamenco dance. Presented in the Bienal Flamenca of the 2000 in Sevilla and performed on the best Theaters in Spain, France, Belgium & Germany.

Currently she works on a new project, a short film called “Believers” while she developes the script ‘The tale of things that matter’ Idea that came out from the script workshop in the Katapult-European Script Centre in Budapest that she attended in 2006 granted by the MEDIA Plus Programme of the European Community. Proyect selected in EAVE 2010 and 8º SOFIA MEETINGS.
